They’re no angels

Northumberland Gazette, www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk 14 January 2012

Bridget Gubbins’ angelic wind turbines (January 5) must be strange manifestations.

They need huge subsidies just to appear among us and roughly 1,000 tonnes of concrete to keep them here.

Running at something like 25 per cent efficiency, they are nevertheless nice little earners for their promoters, whose profits are guaranteed by generous subsidies which we all pay through our electricity bills.

Higher energy costs increase fuel poverty and make British industry less competitive.

These angels seem to promise the earth, while promoting the economics of the madhouse – hardly a positive message for the future.
