Further Ochils turbines planned

Plans to build more wind turbines in the Ochil Hills have been submitted to Perth and Kinross Council.

Developer Wind Prospect is hoping to install 18 new turbines in and around its existing Burnfoot Hill Windfarm.

Burnfoot has been operating and exporting electricity for the past 12 months after planning permission was granted in 2007.

Having seen the success of the scheme, Edinburgh developer Wind Prospect became convinced that there was scope for a significant expansion of the site.

Initial plans were for 22 additional turbines at the site but, following a series of public exhibitions and consultations, revised plans for turbines at three separate locations were put forward.

The latest phase of the plans has seen applications for two more turbines at Burnfoot itself, together with a seven-turbine cluster on nearby Frandy Hill.

Despite the changes there is still local opposition to the plans, with the Friends of the Ochils group claiming that filling in the gaps with turbines at the Frandy Hill and Rhodders sites will make the area look like one giant windfarm.

Members believe the cumulative impact of the turbines will be a disaster for residents, visitors, and hillwalkers.

The applications will be considered by the council’s development control committee later this year.
