Keep close eye on wind power project

Reposted from Rutland Herald, via Energize Vermont, energizevermont.org

I am writing to address a claim made by Steve Eisenberg, managing director of Reunion Power, in Tuesday’s article “Natural Resources Concerned About Wind Project.” Eisenberg is quoted saying that the company has “scheduled several meetings with town officials, not just those towns where the proposed project would be, but also towns around that would be affected by it.”

After reading this article, our organization contacted officials in the towns that surround Hubbardton, Castleton, Pittsford, and West Rutland: Proctor, Ira, Fair Haven, Mendon, Clarendon, Rutland, Poultney, West Haven, Benson, and Brandon. I spoke directly to town clerks and managers and it is clear that Reunion Power has not made any contact with these towns regarding the Grandpa’s Knob project. The little information that officials in the above towns do have about the project seems to come from Tuesday’s article. If developers continue pursuing this project, I encourage readers, particularly landowners close to the project, to keep a close eye on Reunion Power and the unique mountain range that is called Grandpa’s Knob.
