Enfield wind farm sold to new developer

Ithaca developers of a wind farm in Enfield have sold their assets and development rights to a new company, Black Oak Wind Farm LLC.

John Rancich’s Enfield Energy LLC, gained an ownership interest in Black Oak in return for all the rights to the site where Rancich and project manager Marguerite Wells have been working for four years to build a wind farm, according to a statement released by Black Oak on Monday.

Black Oak was formed last week by six area residents, with Peter Bardaglio, former Ithaca College provost and vice president of academic affairs, as president.

The company’s goal is to create a community-owned wind farm at the location where Rancich’s Enfield Energy has been working for four years to build wind turbines.

In a statement released Monday, Bardaglio said, “Our goal is to develop a wind farm patterned after a highly successful and community-owned wind farm project in South Dakota,” South Dakota Wind Partners LLC.

The Black Oak group aims to finalize the permitting and engineering for up to 30 megawatts of capacity within six months and prepare for construction in 2013, and to be able to provide locally-produced renewable energy to area consumers by 2014.

Progress on the wind farm is on hold, pending the results of an environmental impact statement.

The six-member board includes Chuck Bartosch of Clarity Connect, Dean Koyanagi and Lexie Hain of Ithaca, Michelle Jones of Elmira and Leslie Hoffman of Shelter Island. Marguerite Wells is the project manager.
