Windfarm appeal

The Galloway Gazette, www.gallowaygazette.co.uk 29 December 2011

Energy company RES have submitted an appeal to The Scottish Government Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals against Dumfries and Galloway Council’s refusal to grant full planning permission for a windfarm in Galloway.

RES submitted plans for an 11-turbine windfarm at Glenchamber, located between New Luce, Glenluce and Kirkcowan in October 2010, but the council refused the application in September 2011 on the grounds of landscape and visual impact, cultural heritage and potential impact on the Ministry of Defence radar at West Freugh.

Dave Eastman project manager for RES said: “We have a strong case for an appeal, since the committee meeting the MoD has reassessed the wind farm and they have now removed their objection.”

An independent planning reporter will determine the outcome.
