Opponents step up wind farm fight

A group of Blayney residents are stepping up their fight against the proposed Flyers Creek Wind Farm.

Members of the Flyers Creek Wind Turbine Awareness Group Incorporated (FCWTAG) will meet with representatives of the state Department of Planning today to hand over a 326-page submission objecting to the $200 million development.

The residents will be joined by federal member for Hume Alby Schultz after member for Bathurst Paul Toole declined due to personal engagements.

The FCWTAG has been working on the submission for eight weeks, although members have been collating material for more than 12 months.

Their concerns include noise, damage to the landscape, impact on property values and infrasound and health effects.

“We’re hoping this document will change the whole understanding of the energy industry nationally and even globally,” FCWTAG spokesperson Patina Schneider said.

“We’ve had support from all across Australia and the world.”

The FCWTAG consists of 62 members.

The Flyers Creek wind farm is a $200 million development consisting of about 44 wind turbines, up to 150 metres in height, which would produce up to 132 million watts of power.
