Residents fear Mason County wind turbines could impact gas lines

A Mason County Court hearing this Friday, Dec. 9 at 10:30 a.m., regarding a request by the Citizens Alliance for Responsible Renewable Energy, for a motion to stay – an injunction to stop Consumers Energy’s Mason County Lake Winds wind turbine farm – is of particular concern to some northern Oceana and southern Mason County residents.

“For those of you who are receiving this who currently think they will never be affected by the Consumers Energy’s Mason County wind farm, please understand that approximately 8 of these 50 story turbines are near enough to the sour gas lines in southern Mason County to have a potential deadly affect on Oceana County residents also,” writes Colleen Plummer (Bass Lake area resident) in an e-mail appeal for people to attend the hearing.

Consumers Energy is building a wind farm of 56 476-foot wind turbines in Riverton and Summit townships (Mason County).
