Quaking Aspen Wind Energy Project scoping period extended

Little Chicago Review, www.littlechicagoreview.com 7 December 2011

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Rock Springs Field Office (RSFO) is extending the scoping period for the Quaking Aspen Wind Energy Project and will host a public meeting on Monday, Dec. 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Patio Room, 1675 Sunset Drive, Rock Springs, Wyo.

Public scoping on the Quaking Aspen Wind Energy Project began Nov. 8, with the publication of the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement in the Federal Register. Comments will be accepted until Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The scoping meeting will feature information stations where proponent staff and BLM specialists will answer questions and explain key issues associated with the project. A brief presentation will be made at 6 p.m.

The Quaking Aspen Wind Energy Project is a proposal by Evergreen Wind Power Partners, LLC, to construct up to 100 wind turbines with a 250 megawatt capacity which be transported by approximately 14 miles of power line. The project area is in Sweetwater County, on approximately 3,699 acres of public, 3,865 acres of private, and 630 acres of state lands, roughly 11 miles southeast of Rock Springs, and 13 miles south of the Interstate 80 corridor.

The NOI would segregate 3,699 acres of BLM-administered federal lands within the right-of-way application area from appropriation under the public land laws, including the 1872 Mining Law, but not the Mineral Leasing or Mineral Material Acts, for a period of two years.

Written, substantive comments are most helpful if they cite specific actions or impacts, offer informed analysis. Comments may be submitted via mail, hand-delivered during regular business hours (7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), or email to the following address:
