Shumlin wrecking Vermont’s look

The Orleans Record, orleanscountyrecord.com 2 December 2011

Through his irresponsible governance, Peter Shumlin is well on his way to wrecking the look and feel of Vermont.

He pushes ceaselessly for the building of industrial wind turbines on the most environmentally sensitive sites, the high ridgetops for which the Green Mountain State is named.

He would shut down a safe, consistent source of energy, Vermont Yankee, in favor of an obtrusive and inconsistent source of energy, industrial wind.

He would line the pockets of his wind-industry cronies rather than preserve the natural beauty on which our state’s important tourism economy depends.

He would prefer to make a symbolic gesture by putting up cost-inefficient wind towers instead of directing state officials and employees to do the real, hard work of developing and running programs that would create “negawatts” by reducing energy usage and waste in our housing and industrial building stock. (An aggressive building-retrofitting program would create many more local jobs than the continued construction of wind farms.)

The Shumlin administration has been an environmental disaster for Vermont. Voters should remove Mr. Shumlin from office as soon as possible.
