Case against wind farm: sounds like health problems

Many Flyers Creek residents remain opposed to Infigen’s wind development.

Residents have expressed their concerns about the $200 million wind farm to the Central Western Daily throughout the year.

Despite Infigen claiming it has had substantial consultation with residents surrounding the proposed wind farm site, there is still a strong feeling of opposition to the project.

Ron and Marie Burton is just one couple in the area with serious worries over the construction of 40 wind turbines, three of which will lie within a two kilometre radius of their home.

Their concerns include excessive noise from the turbines, as well as vibration, a flicker effect and infrasound issues that have recently been highlighted in the media for their possible relation to health problems being exhibited by residents across Australia living near wind turbines.

Other concerns include the hazard to birds, and concerns over blades potentially falling off.

“When I first found out about the Flyers Creek proposal I researched on the internet and was appalled at the number of groups who are against turbines,” Mrs Burton said.

“These turbines are not windmills, nor are they the size of those at Carcoar.

“They are up to 150m high which is two metres higher than the [Sydney] Harbour Bridge.”

She further highlighted concerns on the health effects the turbines would have on over 30 children who attended the Errowanbang Public School.

The school lies within a two kilometre radius of three proposed turbines.
