Concerns raised over number of wind turbines in East Lindsey

New protests about the proliferation of wind turbines in East Lindsey were sounded at a district council meeting.

Former leader Councillor Jeremy Webb said: “People are very unhappy – they don’t want to see them sprouting up all over the place.”

He went on to claim even smaller-size single turbines – for instance those installed by farmers – could blight the view as has happened at his own home near Alford.

“If we’re not careful, these could end up being dotted all over the place,” he warned.

Councillors Angie Smith and Robert Palmer both complained about the sound of swishing blades, with the former claiming they make a “horrible background noise.”

Councillor Neil Cooper said it was important to protect the integrity of the coastal marsh landscape as that of the Wolds.

Councillor Adam Grist described turbines as “an emotive issue which had haunted the council for the past few years”.

With the likelihood of more applications for windfarms, he said the authority needed to adopt “a robust” policy.

ELDC is already drawing up a draft policy which will go out to public consultation at some point next year.

Its portfolio holder for economic regeneration Councillor Craig Leyland commented: “This is an extremely sensitive issue but we have to deal with it.”
