Montgomery shoots the breeze on Saskatoon turbines

Reported by Justin Blackwell, News Talk 650 CKOM, ckom.com 29 November 2011

Montgomery neighbourhood residents in Saskatoon have rallied against the city’s wind turbine project for a landfill in their area, and have begun circulating a petition.

Resident Chris Fossenier doesn’t think it makes sense.

“Why are we building the turbine 780 metres from people when places like the state of Victoria and Australia said that they won’t build them within five kilometres of a city,” he said.

“They’re trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.”

Mayor Don Atchison contends, however, that the city has done all the proper research.

“There won’t be any affect on noise in the area,” he maintained.

“The only thing is, some people may think of it as being unsightly.”

The petition has garnered about 400 names so far, with more expected to come as it progresses around the city.

Anyone seeking additional information has been invited to a public information meeting at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Montgomery School, or visit the opposition group’s website.
