Council’s fears over Kirkby Misperton wind turbine

A wind turbine planned for a Ryedale village has been branded a potential monstrosity by a local councillor.

Pickering town councillors considered the application for a 154ft-tall turbine at Tofts Road, Kirkby Misperton, which would generate electricity for the national grid.

It was labelled a potential “monstrosity”

by Councillor Mal Danks who added: “It will be in an area of peace, tranquility and beauty. It is the thin edge of the wedge,” while Councillor Brian Baker said he was concerned that it should be illuminated, being over 150ft high.

Several other councillors questioned the effectiveness of the wind turbines.

Councillor Julie Hepworth, chairman of the Ryedale branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England, said she was organising opposition to several schemes in the area.

The town council recommended approval of a 15-metre mast to generate on-farm electricity in Beansheaf Lane, saying it would be more acceptable and less noticeable because of its size.
