Capitalist decision

Deputy Mayor Cr. Ned Golding (Northern Argus, Wed, November 23, 2011) “could not understand how the state government had been able to take a ‘socialist’ approach to wind farm development.”
Probably because what the State Government did was make a capitalist decision in its Development Plan amendments “to fast track applications and minimise community objections.” Windfarm owners and operators exist to make profits, not to take notice of human or other existence.
It is not a misunderstanding that Western democratic liberal governments like ours, faced with ever increasing global big-business demands to provide environments for investment, make these decisions. There are plenty of examples. They built a bridge to Hindmarsh Island. They have done it to expand uranium mining and what are windfarmers on about but “mining” wind. Cr. Golding’s concern for ratepayers who “can’t have a say” is commendable and “there is something wrong with the system.”
The system needs replacing and the voice would be from all in society, ratepayers or no.
