Nine turbine wind farm application is live again

A proposal for nine wind turbines on UK Coal land between the Asfordby villages and Ab Kettleby is live again.

Peel Energy first submitted its application almost a year ago and has now submitted additional new information following requests by Melton Council, Natural England and English Heritage.

It means there will now be a further period of consultation before the application (10/00951/FUL) goes before Melton Council’s development committee for determination.

The supplementary information includes a field archaeological evaluation, additional work relating to ecology and Great Crested Newts in particular, landscape and visual assessments and a report on the impact the wind farm would have on the historic environment.

Eight of the turbines would be 125m high to the tip of the blade and the ninth would be 108m high.

Peel Energy’s project manager Patrick Keogh said he expected a decision on the application early in 2012.

Melton Council said letters would be sent to all those who have commented on the application so far inviting additional remarks within the following 21 days and up until a decision is made.

Protest group STOP the Turbines said it was ‘dismayed’ Peel had decided to pursue its application despite ‘the numerous and significant negative impacts it will have on Melton and its surrounding countryside and villages’.

It added: “The threat has not gone away; unless people object to this proposal our rural landscape that we all know and enjoy will be totally dominated by industrial machines.”
