Windfarm subsidy to be cut by 2013

Communities fearful of proposed windfarms becoming a blight across the Advertiser and Review countryside were told of a cut in subsidies last week.

Last week south Northants MP Andrea Leadsom told an audience representing 92 parish councils that Charles Hendry MP, minister for energy had told her the subsidy for windfarms would be cut 10 per cent in 2013.

The news comes weeks after the Government launched a review of how green homeowners are reimbursed for the electricity they produce.

Speaking at Sponne School in Towcester Mrs Leadsom said: “The Government has reiterated that developers will be encouraged to build wind farms in windy areas. As South Northants is one of the least windy places in the country this is good news.”

Mrs Leadsom said the viability of proposed windfarms could now be taken into account by district planning committees.

She added: “It will be interesting to see if the Broadview Wind Farm proposal between Helmdon, Greatworth and Sulgrave now goes to appeal after their application was refused in June this year.”

Yesterday, Thursday, November 15, Broadview announced they would be lodging an appeal with the Government’s Planning Inspectorate, against the refusal by South Northants Council.

They say SNC received 270 letter supporting the proposal and still believe Spring Farm Ridge is the right place for five turbines.
