Public hearing on windmill farm to be held tonight

We have been provided the following email from an interested reader. Because of the nature of the information we are making it available even though the original source did not provide it.

As we are quickly approaching Thursday night, we are requesting all interested parties to please attend the public meeting and help encourage the NC Utilities Commission to delay the ruling concerning the application of the Pantego Wind Energy, LLC.

Wind energy facilities are a positive source of energy but wind turbines (windmills) must be located in areas that will avoid and minimize negative impacts to wildlife and the balance of nature.

As you witness the tables unfold, with the lengthy struggle to protect this region against the potential US Navy OLF, we need your help to continue to protect our wildlife and the balance of nature.

As in Ron Merritt letter http://www.noolf..com/index.cfm/sid.370/oid.1148 (October 13, 2003), head of the BASH program, hired by the US Navy, stated, “There are very few places in the United States where this level of threat exists.”

The Pungo Unit, created in 1963, is the wintering home of the largest percentage of Tundra Swan on the east coast for the waterfowl.

Again, these fields are located in close proximity to the Pungo Unit of the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge and within the foraging farm fields for the Tundra Swans.

It is extremely important to carefully analyze the balance of nature. What will this create for our future? As the saying goes, “If it sounds too good to be true, then it is”.

Let’s take a look into another issues, the huge loss of bats will create a chain reaction, from to the increase of insects, to the loss of crops, to the creating of using more chemicals in the fields for crop production, to the run off to our already struggling seafood and waters.

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and all other studies must be initiated and completed. We need to take all measures to STOP AND THINK, before it is too late.
