The township with the lowest property tax rate in Allegheny County is likely to keep that distinction one more year.
The township’s preliminary budget for 2012 holds the tax rate at 1.2 mills, where it has been since 2002, manager Cheryl Fischer said Monday.
The budget is available for review on the township’s website – http://twp.pine.pa.us/ – and in the municipal building. It will be ready for adoption on Dec. 5.
The $12.3 million budget includes $1.6 million in road improvements for 2012 and finishing up $790,436 in 2011 road projects.
The capital budget includes $1.2 million for the township’s share of the improvements to the Route 910 and Pearce Mill Road intersection, a PennDOT project. The capital budget also includes construction of a new salt storage building for $500,000, replacement of snow removal equipment for $307,000 and pedestrian improvements on North Chapel Drive for $575,000.
In other business, supervisors voted to try to sell unused traffic signal poles and the township’s wind turbine.
“Good luck,” said Supervisor Phil Henry.
Supervisors previously tried unsuccessfully to sell the turbine.
Ms. Fischer said that iPads have been purchased for supervisors and department heads and are being programmed so the township can go paperless with meeting documents.
