Twist In controversial Fairhaven wind project

www.abc6.com 11 November 2011

It’s a dispute in Fairhaven that’s been going on for nearly three years. “The major issue of the wind turbine is the noise, ” says Frank Haggerty, a frustrated resident.

People in town have been fighting a proposal to install two wind turbines near the bike path, but sometime on Friday, a rope went up blocking everyone from the proposed site. Down the road…construction had already started.

Construction to clear trees and other debris to make way for two four hundred foot wind turbines. Resident say the town broke its promise. “There was an agreement that these turbines wouldn’t be installed until an agreement was reached with the local citizens group, ” adds Haggerty.

They say the town went about it in a sneaky way. “It’s Veteran’s Day…no one is picking up the phone at town hall, ” says Haggerty.

Residents are now taking matters into their own hands. They are filing a motion in court on Monday to hopefully put a stop to the work. They say their fight is far from over.
