Not moving to Shelburne

Shelburne Falls & West County Independent, 11 November 2011

My husband and I are planning to move to the Greenfield area. We’ve been looking for land for almost a year and were delighted to find a beautiful piece of land with lovely neighbors in Shelburne. We planned to buy the land and build a house there. When we heard about the proposed Mt. Massaemet industrial wind project, we changed our minds.

The parcel we found is about two miles directly down-slope from the proposed project site. After researching the effects of wind turbines, it was clear we would hear low-frequency noise from the turbines and be subjected to low-frequency vibrations. We don’t want to live near this industrial site with the health hazards and lowering of property values associated with it.

Despite how much we love Shelburne for its natural beauty, local agriculture and wealth of artists, we won’t be moving there. I urge you to carefully consider the impact of this wind development on the economic health of Shelburne. Others interested in living in Shelburne, like us, may choose to live elsewhere.
