Lowell wind protesters to host open house

Protesters are having an “open house” Sunday at their ridgeline camp next to the Lowell wind project.

They are inviting wind opponents, supporters and those on the fence who want to see the camp and the nearby wind site under construction on the Lowell ridgeline.

“Curious about what it looks like up on the mountain right now?” asks the invitation sent out to local newspapers this week.

The invitation is titled “Got Questions About Industrial Wind?”

There is no blasting on weekends but work does continue on the wind site.

“We do not anticipate that there will be police present and we will not be breaking any laws by being there,” said protesters in their invitation.

The hike begins at 11:30 a.m. Sunday with groups gathering at the Craftsbury Public Library. Groups will be carpooled to the road at the base of the mountain and then hike up. The hike takes 30 minutes to an hour.

The protesters warn that the hiking trail is muddy and steep so they encourage participants to wear hiking shoes or boots, plus warm clothes and hat, a day pack with lunch and a warm drink, and bright colors for hunting season.

Each hiking group will be welcomed to the camp, participate in a question-and-answer session and then stay for several hours or go back down after 15 minutes.
