Residents anger at noise from Palgrave wind turbine

Weary villagers say their health and sleeping patterns are being ruined by the noise from a nearby wind turbine.
Up to 15 Palgrave residents living in Lows Lane, The Green and along Upper Rose Lane have complained to Mid Suffolk District Council about the noise from the 24m high turbine on playing fields close to the village’s community centre.
They say they cannot sleep at night due to the “whirring” sound produced by the turbine and the problem was particularly bad for residents living in homes just 100m away, with one resident having to see a doctor for persistent migraines brought on by a lack of sleep.
Concerns were also raised that the turbine had not been built within 15m of the edge of the playing field, as required in the planning permission, and the centre’s committee had ignored residents’ calls for alternative forms of renewable energy, such as solar panels and heat pumps, to be explored.
Lows Lane resident Adrian Wilmshurst said: “We hear high-pitched whining all the time it is turning.
“We can’t use our back garden and it is spoiling our quality of life.”
He complained the high pole was also blocking sunlight getting to nearby homes.
And Neil Weston, of Upper Rose Lane, said: “The noise is an ever present intrusion into outside recreation in Palgrave.
“People have had to go inside to get away from it.
A spokeswoman for the district council said investigations were being made into the noise complaints and a planning enforcement investigation was under way.
The turbine supplies electricity to the community centre, aiming to generate 22,000kW annually.
Nobody from the community centre was available for comment.
