Huge wind turbine plan is blown out

Controversial plans for a huge wind turbine on farm land have been turned down following a large-scale public outcry.

The application for a 219 ft turbine in Aldridge had sparked a 416-name petition and 60 letters of objection.

Campaigners today welcomed the decision and said it would protect an “area of natural beauty and preserve nature”. The turbine had been earmarked for land on College Farm, off Bosty Lane. But Walsall Council planning officers refused the application under delegated powers.

They said it would harm the appearance and character of the green belt.

Head of planning David Elsworthy, said: “The proposed 67m high wind turbine would be prominent, out of scale and visually dominant in the immediate environs and local landscape between Bosty Lane and Mellish Road.

“The proposed turbine is considered too large and could not be satisfactorily absorbed into this landscape and skyline, creating an inordinate intrusive structure from public vantage points.”
