Alby attacks state colleagues over wind farms

Federal Member for Hume Alby Schultz has this morning launched an extraordinary attack on his Liberal state colleagues demanding they deliver on a promise of a moratorium on new wind turbine developments.

The attack comes in the wake of the state’s failure to deliver on a promise prior to the election and after the Supreme Court of South Australia forced energy company AGL to shut down 16 turbines due to health impacts.

The Court found the turbines were creating too much noise for neighbouring residents at the Hallett 2 Wind farm north of Adelaide.

Mr Schultz says if the court in South Australia has had the courage to balance the needs of wind turbine developments with the rights of rural Australians, it is about time the NSW Government followed suit.

Meantime

Planning approval has been given for a new wind farm near Tarago on the eastern side of Lake George.

Infigen’s Capital 2 Wind Farm 15 kilometres west of Tarago, where there are already other wind farms in operation

The new wind farm will see the construction of forty one,3 megawatt turbines, with a generating capacity of 100 megawatts.

It is expected to cost up to $250 million.

Infigen Energy’s General Manager of Development, David Griffin says the company still has a long way to go before work starts on the farm
