Vermont cops serve order on wind protesters; no arrests

The Associated Press, www.burlingtonfreepress.com 4 November 2011

LOWELL – Vermont State Police say officers served a no trespass order on activists protesting construction of a wind power project in Lowell and there were no arrests, despite two blasting operations carried out during the day.

Police say troopers and deputies from the Lamoille County sheriff’s department served the order around 9 a.m. Friday on eight protesters within the 1,000-foot safety zone set up by construction crews working for Green Mountain Power.

The order required the protesters to stay out of the blasting zone, even though they are on private property not owned by GMP. The protesters object to the construction of the 21-turbine industrial wind project.

Police say the eight protesters complied with the police order and moved out of the blasting zone.
