Temporary mast go ahead

Carrick Gazette, www.carricktoday.co.uk 2 November 2011

Ecotricity have been granted planning permission to erect a temporary mast to monitor wind speed at Straid Farm.

The energy company are looking at the area with a view to building their own wind farm at the site near Lendalfoot.

However, planning approval was only granted by a margin of 4-3 after Girvan & South Carrick councillor Alec Oattes asked for Regulatory Panel members to reject it over fears that it would mean another wind farm in Carrick in “scenic area.”

His fears were backed by councillors Bill Grant and Ann Galbraith who voted to reject the application.

However, council officers said this application was only for a temporary mast for 18 months that would allow Ecotricity to record data, such as wind speed, for their investigations into the Straid Farm site.
