Falmouth residents should be reimbursed for turbines

We hear a lot of talk that both the federal government and the state feel the need to provide funding for wind projects, as they have done in Falmouth, because the nation needs to experiment with new sources of energy. This need is fueled by the recognition that climate change needs to be reversed, and sooner or later we will surely run out of fossil fuel.
With all good intentions, the federal government and the state provided the funding for the Falmouth wind turbine experiment. Unfortunately, the experiment is a failure.
As with every experiment, there are lessons to be learned from success as well as failure. The lesson from this failure is that more care needs to be exercised in siting industrial-grade wind turbines in residential areas. The state has learned from this and is taking steps to understand the health problems, which might lead to better siting regulations in the future.
Both the state and federal authorities have learned valuable lessons from Falmouth, and I think it’s time for these authorities to take some responsibility for the failed experiment and relieve Falmouth and its residents from some or all of the financial burden involved.
