Lincolnshire windfarm exhibition ‘showed no detailed site plan’

Concern has been expressed that a wind farm exhibition failed to provide enough detailed information on the plans.

REG Windpower is proposing to build six 2MW turbines on land traditionally known as Bank House Farm near Croft.

The land is close to the A52 with a small area on the west of the road designated as an area for a possible Habitat Management Plan.

The developers staged two public exhibitions at Croft Village Hall and Coronation Hall at Wainfleet.

But the chairman of the Croft Windfarm Action Group (CWAG) has described the quality of the exhibition as ‘disappointing and appalling’.

Melvin Grosvenor successfully fought a wind farm plan in Baumber and is now representing other groups on the Wolds and the coast who are being faced with wind farm plans in their communities.

He told the Target: “I was disgusted with the exhibition as there was very little information. I was expecting there to be a detailed site plan as other developers have shown at other exhibitions. There was only a basic map. I was expecting to see a proper laid out plan including details of the location of the substation and where the turbines are going to be.

“I know they are going to be 100 metres high but I had to ask what length the blades will be which I was told will be 40 metres. That configuration is important to know.”

Mr Grosvenor felt the company was not being open enough with the public on the plans and claims he was told that the public will help decide where the exact location on the turbines will go.

He added: “They must know where they hope to put the turbines and the distance between them as they had a montage so that must have been put together with some precise information. I spoke to several people who came out of there feeling the same way. I was left feeling disappointed and appalled.”

Despite these concerns, Tracey Siddle, REG Windpower development manager for the project said the company was pleased with the exhibition and received positive comments from the public.

She said: “We were very pleased to meet local people at two exhibitions this weekend to introduce our project and very encouraged to receive a number of positive comments.

“As well as images displaying how the wind farm would appear from a variety of viewpoints, members of the development team were on hand to answer questions. If anyone missed the events they can visit www.bhfwindfarm.co.uk”

If approved, Bank House Farm Wind Farm would generate enough energy for 4,720 homes. The developers are also offering a community fund of £48,000 per year to support local good causes.
