Barnstable shouldn’t cede turbine oversight to state

Cape Cod Times, www.capecodonline.com 29 October 2011

The town of Barnstable should not cede its authority for the oversight of the location of wind turbines to the commonwealth.

The town should take a definitive stand now against any bill on Beacon Hill that cedes that authority. I believe Councilwoman Ann Canedy has recommended that the town take such a definitive position on this issue.

As the recent controversy in Falmouth indicates, the noise from these turbines can cause a significant problem for those nearby. Also, if one objects to wind turbines located in Nantucket Sound based on their appearance from the shore, one should object to a win turbine located next to a residential neighborhood that has a much greater visual impact.
