Plans for wind turbine submitted

The Packet, www.falmouthpacket.co.uk 26 October 2011

A full planning application has been submitted to Cornwall Council for the development of a single wind turbine at the former tin mine at Wheal Jane.

Renewable energy developer Partnerships for Renewables (PfR) is proposing the development, which forms part of the Wheal Jane Masterplan being adopted by Cornwall Council. This is a vision for an earth science business cluster at the Wheal Jane site, powered by various renewable energy technologies.

Jerry Sturman, Regional Manager at PfR, commented: “We have now completed all the environmental and technical studies on the site, which have confirmed our belief that the area is suitable for the development of a wind turbine. The turbine could generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of over 1000 homes, depending on the final capacity of the model we build, which will be between 1.5MW and 2.5MW.* A drop-in event to share the proposed plans and give local community members the chance to view the planning application will be held on Friday 28 October from 3.30pm to 6.30pm in the Wheal Jane Room at Chacewater Village Hall in Church Hill.
