Council rejects road breach claims in Mynydd y Betws windfarm row

South Wales Guardian, www.southwalesguardian.co.uk 26 October 2011

Neath Port Talbot council has denied it is turning a blind eye to planning breaches at the Mynydd y Betws wind farm site.

Protesters say planners have ignored contractors using the Nant y Melyn farm track near Cwmgors to reach the site, which they claim became prohibited on completion of a new access route last week. Protestor Andrew Lacey said: “They are breaking the law and planning officers are watching them do it.”

However, an authority spokesman said no such condition existed, only one prohibiting improvement of the route. “The existing access was being used while new access on to the A474 was being formed. That work was sufficiently complete last week to allow the new access to be used and it is that access which is now in use. Officers have been on site on several occasions and we are satisfied that planning conditions are not being breached.”

The row followed reports of alleged accidents at the old route last week.
