Meeting planned on Antrim wind farm

ANTRIM – The company proposing a wind energy facility on Tuttle Hill will host an information session for residents next month.

Officials from Antrim Wind Energy LLC and their technical consultants will be on hand to answer question about the project. There will not be a formal presentation; instead, plans will be on display.

The proposed 10-turbine facility would include an electrical substation, collector lines and an access road.

Antrim Wind is a subsidiary of Portsmouth-based Eolian Renewable Energy, LLC. In a news release announcing the event, the company said the project would bring in more than $8 million in tax revenue for the town during its operating life, while requiring few town services.

Selectmen have planned a special town meeting for Nov. 8 at the request of the planning board for residents to vote on two zoning ordinances on wind energy facilities.

One of the ordinances would prohibit wind energy facilities to be built in rural conservation districts, which includes Tuttle Hill. But this would most likely not have an effect Eolian’s project. That is under the jurisdiction of the N.H. Site Evaluation Committee, which does not have to follow any town ordinances.

The committee will begin its deliberations on the project next year.
