Rhode Island regulators rule in favor of Portsmouth wind turbine

State regulators have found in the Town of Portsmouth’s favor in a dispute over how it sells power from a wind turbine at its public high school, ruling that the price the town receives for the electricity generated by the turbine does not violate state or federal laws.

The Division of Public Utilities and Carriers “hereby finds that the Town of Portsmouth has not, and is not currently, receiving an excessive rate for the output it sells back to National Grid,” says the decision signed by hearing officer John Spirito Jr. on Oct. 13.

The ruling ends the case that relates to so-called “net metering.” No further regulatory action will be taken.
