FMM applauds commission on Bowers vote

Friends of Maine's Mountains, www.friendsofmainesmountains.or 19 October 2011

Friends of Maine’s Mountains today applauded the Land Use Regulation Commission (LURC) for today’s vote to instruct staff attorneys to compose a denial order for a wind “farm” in Eastern Maine.

After months of testimony, evidence, cross-examination, and deliberation; LURC today asked its legal staff to draft an order telling First Wind of Boston that its industrial scale wind project is not worthy of a permit. Once completed, that order is expected to be presented to LURC for a final vote in early December.

Friends of Maine’s Mountains, a nonprofit group opposed to mountaintop industrial wind power for environmental and economic reasons, was pleased with today’s vote.

Our education efforts are really paying off. The public is catching on. Despite all the lobbying and hype, the Governor, Legislators, and regulators are now doing their homework, which clearly tells them that mountaintop industrial wind power has massive impacts and paltry benefits. When they realize these high impacts and low benefits, Maine people are less inclined to violate our revered “Quality of Place.”
