Villagers oppose wind turbine plans

Grantham Journal, www.granthamjournal.co.uk 18 October 2011

Carlton Scroop and Normanton Cliffe Parish Council members are united in their opposition to two wind turbines, which are proposed to be built on a village farm.

Parish council chairman David Balfe said over 60 villagers attended a meeting on Monday to discuss the plans, which will face South Kesteven District Council’s planning committee on November 15.

He said: “The majority were opposing the wind turbines. We have set up an action group to put in constructive criticisms to the council so we don’t get them.

“The parish council is united in its opposition to them.”

The main objections noted to the 39.6 metre high turbines, which are planned for a farm off Main Street, Carlton Scroop, is the prominent location.

Other issues include the amount of noise and the interruption to bat migration.

Coun Balfe added: “We have been supported very well by other villages that have encountered the same problems.”

An action committee meeting is being held at 7.30pm on Monday, October 17 at the village hall.

Comments on the proposal, S11/1922, have to be submitted to the district council by Friday, October 21.

Coun Balfe said: “We are going to put together an action plan but we are fighting that type of time scale, which we think is leaving it very tight, although it is no different from any other application, making it difficult.”

The wind turbines will both be 50kw with a hub height of 29.6m and a rotor diameter of 20m.

The power generated by the turbines is proposed to supply the applicant’s farm with any surplus being sold on to the National Grid.

The applicant, Dick Baines, was unavailable to comment on the application.
