Token green effort

It has taken almost six years, but now Saskatoon will have one. City council voted to erect a wind turbine at the landfill ostensibly to generate power and lead us into the green zone, but I think it will do a good job of controlling the seagull population.
Debate is stirring around the world as to the safety and side-effects of these turbines in public areas, but of course studies have been done by Stantec Consulting, of Traffic Bridge fame, which has assured council that these are perfectly safe.
Spending tax dollars indiscriminately to ride the green trend is unseemly and grasping – the worst example of the “feather in the cap” syndrome that council can perpetuate.
I don’t often agree with Coun. Pat Lorje, but she nailed it with her green comment at the council meeting.
You cannot speak ill of any green plan in this burg without having a kayak paddle flung at you.
Getting back to the turbine, the simple fact that we are only putting up one unit supports my view that we just want to say we have one. By the way, in many European countries, wind turbines cannot be erected closer than 1,500 metres from any dwelling due to safety concerns.
