As the owner, operator and manager of the NSW high voltage network connecting generators, distributors and major end users, TransGrid reports that it is continuing to receive enquiries for wind farm proposals in Northern NSW, seeking connection to the NSW transmission network.
Mr Stephen Clark, executive general manager of network planning and performance said TransGrid continues to receive a steady stream of enquiries regarding potential wind farms.
“TransGrid has an ongoing commitment to facilitate the connection of new generators into the national electricity market through the NSW transmission grid,” Mr Clark said.
“From the enquiries TransGrid has received, Northern NSW has the potential to supply an additional 1200 megawatts of wind generation into the national electricity market in the future.
“This amount is equivalent to the amount of electricity used by around 870,000 average homes annually.
“The energy industry is undergoing a period of significant change and transmission networks will be a key facilitator in the shift to lower emission and renewable energy generation sources.”
TransGrid’s currently conn-ects more than 4000 megawatts of renewable energy in NSW and is progressing applications to connect additional renewable generation to its network.
