Residents see scale of turbines planned on their doorstep

Morpeth Herald, www.morpethherald.co.uk 13 October 2011

A bid for a windfarm on the edge of Widdrington has now been formally submitted.

Infinis has been consulting for around 18 months on plans for four 126m turbines on farm land to the west of the village, with public exhibitions and the formation of a community liaison group.

Now the company has submitted its proposals for the Sisters site to Northumberland County Council in a planning application.

However, surveys have shown that the majority of residents are against the plans.

A parish council poll in Widdrington Station and Stobswood showed that 54 per cent of respondents were opposed, while an online survey by Widdrington Village Residents’ Association found 62 per cent against.
