Wind turbine proposal in Clifton approved

Credit:  by WABI-TV5 News Desk, www.wabi.tv 12 October 2011 ~~

A proposal to install five wind turbines in Clifton is now a go.

The town’s planning board gave its final approval to the project Wednesday night.

The head of the board, Eric Johns, says that clears the way for construction to begin, after the code enforcement officer signs off on it Thursday.

Pisguh Mountain Partners want to install 308-foot tall turbines on the mountain, an idea that’s generated some opposition along the way.

Developer Paul Fuller says the $22-million project will generate enough electricity for up to 5,000 homes in Penobscot and Hancock counties.

He tells TV 5 he hopes to start construction within the next month.

Johns says opponents to the project told the planning board they plan to file appeal to the approval, but at this point, it’s not expected to delay the project.
