Shetland: Artists Against Windfarms

Christine Lovelock, Artists Against Windfarms, www.artistsagainstwindfarms.com artistsagainstwindfarms.blogspot.com

We have a new page on our website, featuring Paul Bloomer’s Windfarm series of woodcuts, along with his thoughts on the proposals for a *150 giant turbines on Shetland, and the text of a letter that he wrote to the local media.

Paul’s work has also been shown in an Exhibition in the Valia Fine Art Gallery (Lerwick) where he and other artists expressed how they felt about the prospect of this wind farm. We have links to more information about this Exhibition, and a review of it in HI-Arts.

Finally this page has a link to www.sustainableshetland.org who are campaigning against the wind farm, and to the Viking Energy website. The video simulations that the Developers show – including one where you drive at great speed through what seems like miles and miles of turbines – may have been made in order to promote the wind farm, but if you care anything about wild places, and nature, they can only fill you with horror.

Please show your support for these artists in Shetland, and to all the people on the island who are fighting to save it.
