Palmyra reviews proposed wind ordinance

The Palmyra Township board continued its gradual deliberation of an ordinance regulating industrial wind energy development during two special meetings held Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 27 and 29. No final decisions were made, but the board finished reviewing the ordinance and its language.
A major topic of discussion Tuesday evening was the decommissioning of wind turbines no longer in use.
Another topic of discussion was the proposed complaint resolution board, a group of people designated to handle issues between developers and residents. The board would consist of a Palmyra resident, a member of the planning commission, a member of the township board and two representatives of the developer.
Isley was concerned about some of the logistics, including appointment of board members, term lengths, member payment and special circumstances, including cases where a complain resolution board member was the complainant. He said the matter should be brought before township attorney Frank Riley.
During public comment, former township treasurer Jim Frye commended the board for its work on the ordinance.
Isley said there would be little discussion of the ordinance during Thursday, Oct. 6th’s regular meeting, as the board has other business to handle. However, there will be a public hearing on the ordinance at 7 p.m. Oct. 13, when the public may offer its input on the issue.
