The Conservative Party has promised to halt the proliferation of onshore wind farms that critics claim are spoiling the Westcountry landscape. In his speech to delegates, Energy Minister Charles Hendry said the Government has changed its attitude: “In the cold blustery days of much of the winter, wind energy can make a real contribution. But Labour’s system failed to get the right balance between the deployment of wind and the concerns of communities. So we are changing that.” Tory-led Cornwall Council last month threw out plans for a wind farm of five turbines at St Erme, near Truro.
