Outdoors notebook: No wind turbines

Written by Leo Roth, Staff writer, www.democratandchronicle.com 2 October 2011

Count me among those celebrating the New York Power Authority’s decision to ends its push for offshore wind farms in Ontario and Erie lakes. The power authority said it was cost-prohibitive; some $60 million to $100 million a year to subsidize a water-based wind farm.

But I’ve got to believe the many sportsmen’s groups that unified and spoke out against the proposal got their voices heard. The effect of 450-foot high wind turbines on fish, birds, bats, recreational boating and property values would’ve been profound – while raising the cost of turning on a light bulb.
