Insch wind turbines plan is put on hold

Proposals to build two wind turbines close to several sites of archaeological importance near Insch have been put on hold.

Mint Energy has submitted plans to erect the two 88ft turbines at Bridgefoot, about two miles west of Insch.

Councillors heard the structures would be near sites such as Dunnydeer Fort, the fort at Wardhouse and the Hill of Christ’s Kirk.

Planners have recommended the proposals for approval, stating Historic Scotland was satisfied the turbines would not have a “ significant adverse impact” on the sites.

A total of six letters of objection have been sent to Aberdeenshire Council, however, with concerns including noise and visual impact, and the effect the turbines would have on the landscape and nearby historical features.

Objector Alexander Mateo, who lives near the proposed site, also spoke out against the plans at yesterday’s Marr area committee meeting.

He said the noise of the turbines would be “amplified” because of the shallow valley and low hills, and called for tests to be carried out. Councillors agreed to visit the site before making a decision.
