Wind farm plan for Davidstow Ridge on Bodmin Moor withdrawn

BBC News, www.bbc.co.uk 28 September 2011

Proposals for a wind farm to be built in Cornwall have been withdrawn by the company, BBC News understands.

Community Windpower Ltd had submitted plans to build about 20 turbines on land at Davidstow Ridge on Bodmin Moor.

The Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Unit (AONB) which campaigned against the farm said it was “delighted” with the news.

A spokesman from Community Windpower Ltd has confirmed it will put in another application soon.

The company refused to comment further on its forthcoming application.

A spokesperson from the AONB said: “We are not against wind turbines per se, in fact we think they can make a useful contribution to our future energy needs.

“But they must be sensitively sited and not in or adjacent to our most precious protected landscapes.”

In its original proposals, Community Windpower Ltd had said the wind farm would have generated electricity for about 28,000 homes.
