Panels outperform turbines in county energy study

By ANNIE GOELLER, Daily Journal staff writer, dailyjournal.net 27 September 2011

A study by a local utility found that the sun is a better friend to Johnson County than the wind.

Johnson County REMC has been studying how much electricity can be produced locally with wind and solar power.

After two years, the results are clear: Solar power is the big winner.

Solar panels produce more than four times as much power per month as a 50-foot wind turbine, according to the study by Johnson County REMC.

The main reason: Johnson County isn’t windy enough.
