Wigtownshire wind farm rejection recommended

BBC News, www.bbc.co.uk 25 September 2011

Councillors are being advised to refuse plans for a wind farm in Wigtownshire because of its “significant adverse impact” on the landscape.

Developer RES wants to construct 11 turbines at Glenchamber between New Luce, Kirkcowan and Glenluce.

The firm said the project could generate enough power to meet the demand of 14,000 homes.

However, planning officers have told the council to turn down the bid due to landscape issues.

There is also concern about the proximity to four designated prehistoric archaeological sites.

As part of the application, RES has proposed setting up an annual fund of £50,000 to invest in the communities near the development.

Planning councillors will discuss the plans later this week.
