End wind subsidies

www.dailyamerican.com 22 September 2011

I’m writing in support of Jack Buchan’s letter on Sept. 18.

The undeniable facts presented by our government are: More than 15 percent of us live below poverty, 22 percent of all children live in poverty, average household incomes are back to 1998 levels, and the big one – $14.8 trillion in debt.

These are facts provided by our federal government, not Mr. Buchan trying to make a case against wind turbines. The people of Somerset County and all of our country should be alerted to this.

If you are personally not living in one of these situations, I am sure you know someone who is. Even if you try to help by volunteering and donating, you know its not enough.

Mr. Buchan has a point well written. It is time for government subsidies to a non-efficient source of electricity to stop. Wind turbines produce electricity at less than 25 percent capacity which would equate to less than a productivity rate of 90 days per year.

We complain that all our jobs have gone to China, yet sit back and let Gamesa, a Spanish company take our cash. This cash will be taken by cutting Medicare, Social Security, education, veteran’s benefits, and farm subsidies, directly or indirectly.

We are broke. We can’t have it all. Would you rather have these programs or subsidies for turbines that make a small amount of expensive electricity?

Somerset County calls itself America’s County yet foreign-owned wind turbines proliferate the beautiful mountains. Even the Farmers Market uses a picture of a wind turbine in its logo. I don’t understand the connection. Flight 93’s hallowed ground could someday be surrounded by wind turbines. Is this for what we want to be known?
