Wind farm plan for county border rejected by planners

Planning permission for a wind farm which would have sat just a few miles from Cotesbach has been rejected by Rugby Borough Council.

Scottish and Southern Energy submitted plans for the nine-turbine wind farm which would have been near the village of Churchover, just over the Warwickshire border.

However, at a meeting last Wednesday evening, Rugby council’s planning committee rejected the Scottish firm’s scheme.

Lorne Smith, who had campaigned against the proposals, said he was ‘delighted’.

He added: “Councillors were especially concerned about harm to the landscape, unacceptable visual impact upon nearby residents, and damage to the historic buildings and conservation area in Churchover and elsewhere.”

Scottish and Southern Energy has not said whether it intends to appeal against the decision.
