Turbine ‘eyesore’ rejected

By John Ross, The Scotsman, scotsman.com 21 September 2011

Councillors have unanimously rejected plans to erect Scotland’s tallest wind turbines on a site south of Inverness.

An area of forest at Druim Ba between Kiltarlity and Drumnadrochit is earmarked for 23 turbines reaching a height of 490ft.

Among the 330 objectors is former England football captain Terry Butcher, now Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager, and his wife Rita who live close to the site at Abriachan above Loch Ness.

In a weekly column for a local newspaper yesterday Mr Butcher said the development would create a “monstrous eyesore” and urged Highland Council to throw out the scheme.

Among the objections raised was the impact on tourism but the proposal also attracted 428 letters from supporters who said it is vital more energy is generated through renewables.
